What is Cupro? And Why Do We love it?
Bemberg™ Cupro Fabric (aka Sustainable Vegan Silk)

Cupro is a regenerated cellulose fabric derived from cotton - specifically recycled cotton linter, the fine fluffy fiber around the cottonseed that is usually thrown away during cotton production, or is a byproduct of cottonseed oil production. The linter is refined, dissolved and spun into new, uniquely fine and uniform fibers that are woven into smooth, silky cupro fabric using a proprietary fiber production technology developed by J.P. Bemberg and successfully upscaled to commercial production in 1931 by Asahi KASEI at their Bemberg Plant in Nobeoka City, Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan. To this day Asahi KASEI is the only Bemberg manufacturer in the world.

Cupro is a precious by many names, including cuprammonium rayon, ammonia silk and Bemberg. It's made from cotton waste. Unlike synthetic fabrics, cupro is highly and rapidly biodegradable. When combusted, cupro generates fairly less toxic substances than most other fabrics, as well as less CO2.

Why Bemberg™ Cupro is Unique?

Made of fibers with an almost perfectly round cross-section, Bemberg yarn has a smooth surface (Features | What is Bemberg | Bemberg | Asahi Kasei Corporation Fibers & Textiles ). This means that it irritates the skin less than other materials and is hypoallergenic.

Bemberg is highly breathable, significantly more so than silk, cotton, acetate, nylon, and polyester. It rapidly absorbs and releases moisture through very small waterways that are invisible to the naked eye, keeping the wearer cool, fresh and comfortable.

With the high moisture content of its fibers, Bemberg has built-in air-conditioning, keeping the wearer comfortable whatever the season. Bemberg enables heat on the surface of the skin to escape, keeping the wearer feeling pleasantly cool in heat and humidity. When absorbing moisture from the body, Bemberg generates thermal energy, which produces warmth in cold temperatures when combined with another material that does not let such heat escape.

Another feature of Bemberg is that it discharges static electricity (anti-static) in winter and in dry climates due to its high water content.
