What is Cupro? And Why Do We love it?
Bemberg™ Cupro Fabric (aka Sustainable Vegan Silk)
Cupro is a regenerated cellulose fabric derived from cotton - specifically recycled cotton linter, the fine fluffy fiber around the cottonseed that is usually thrown away during cotton production, or is a byproduct of cottonseed oil production. The linter is refined, dissolved and spun into new, uniquely fine and uniform fibers that are woven into smooth, silky cupro fabric using a proprietary fiber production technology developed by J.P. Bemberg and successfully upscaled to commercial production in 1931 by Asahi KASEI
at their Bemberg Plant in Nobeoka City, Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan. To this day Asahi KASEI is the only Bemberg manufacturer in the world.
Cupro is a precious by many names, including cuprammonium rayon, ammonia silk and Bemberg. It's made from cotton waste. Unlike synthetic fabrics, cupro is highly and rapidly biodegradable. When combusted, cupro generates fairly less toxic substances than most other fabrics, as well as less CO2
What is Lenzing™ Ecovero™ Viscose?
Derived from certified renewable wood sources using an eco-responsible production process by meeting high environmental standards, LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibers tailor to a sustainable lifestyle, contributing to a cleaner environment.
How LENZING ™ ECOVERO is Sustainable?
Viscose is derived from the cellulose or wood pulp from regenerative trees such as eucalyptus, beech and pine, as well as plants such as bamboo, soy and sugar cane. As a plant-based fiber, viscose is not toxic or polluting, but its manufacturing process can be. We only source viscose whose manufacturing is certified as eco-friendly. Viscose is a more durable and animal-friendly alternative to silk.
What are the key benefit of Lenzing™ Ecovero Fabrics?
Up to 50% lower emissions & water impact than generic viscose
The manufacturing of LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibers generates up to 50% lower emissions and water impact compared to generic Viscose.
Sustainable wood and pulp sourcing/procurement
LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibers are produced using pulp, which is derived from the renewable resource wood as raw material. Lenzing purchases wood and pulp derived from responsibly managed forests and certified to come from sustainable sources.
Supply chain transparency
A special manufacturing system enables LENZING™ ECOVERO™ branded viscose fibers to be identified in the final product, even after long textile processing and conversion steps through the value chain. Environmentally conscious consumers can be assured that retailers and brands are incorporating genuine LENZING™ ECOVERO™ eco-responsible Viscose in their products.
You can be assured that your fashion choices are sensitive to environmental concerns. Manufactured only from certified and controlled wood sources and produced with significantly lower fossil energy use and water than generic viscose, LENZING™ ECOVERO™ branded viscose fibers are certified with the internationally recognized EU Ecolabel. This label of environmental excellence is only awarded to products and services, which have a significantly lower environmental impact throughout their lifecycle: from raw material extraction to production, distribution and disposal.
